How to Host Your First Cookie Decorating Class
So you've mastered cookie decorating and you're ready to teach others? Hosting your first class can feel overwhelming, but with the right preparation, it's incredibly rewarding.

Before the Class
Choose Your Venue
Start small! Your home kitchen, a community center, or even a friend's bakery can work. Make sure you have enough table space for each student to work comfortably.
Plan Your Design
For beginners, choose 3-4 simple cookie designs that teach fundamental techniques. Think hearts, circles, or simple shapes that introduce outlining, flooding, and basic details.
Prep Like a Pro
Bake and cool cookies the day before. Pre-mix your icing colors and prepare sample cookies to show students what they're working toward.
During the Class
Set the Mood
Put on some light music, offer beverages, and create a welcoming atmosphere. Remember, people are here to have fun!
Demonstrate First
Show each technique before having students try it. Go slowly and explain what you're doing and why.
Be Patient
Everyone learns at different speeds. Circulate the room and offer individual help when needed.
After the Class
Provide Takeaway Tips
Give students a simple care sheet with storage tips and encourage them to practice at home.
Follow Up
Send a thank you email with photos from the class. This is also a great time to announce your next class!
With CookieJar, managing registrations, sending reminders, and following up is all automated - so you can focus on teaching.
